Robert Gordon Brooks died of cancer the evening of May 14 2008 in West Haven Connecticut.
His son Gordon was at his side. His wife Martha has been caring for him during his long struggle with this disease. His last week was a week of care and music and story telling with son Gordon, his nephew Jesse, Martha and his four siblings Meredith, Leah, Scott and John.
He was a good man and will be missed by all whose path he crossed.
May he rest in peace.

I took apart this painting of a woman reading to repair the frame. After grandma died I had put this picture on the wall in my bedroom. I returned home to find it fallen, broken on the floor behind my bed. Grandma always had the picture on the wall in her apartment although she once told me she did not like it because "it was a picture of Gordon's girlfriend". It was in the living room of the Miller home for many years.
I was surprised to find behind the picture of the mysterious brunette a charcoal drawing of Charles Kohler. It may be grandma's father although it does not look like the pictures I have seen of him. The edges of this drawing have been painted black so that it could act as a mat for the smaller painting of the woman which was put on top. On the back the artist has written: Charles Kohler, corner of Vista and East End, black coat and vest, $3.00 paid in good faith, price $7.00.
The frame is now put back together and touched up with a little gold paint.
